Wise v. Hill
Supreme Court of Louisiana
Wise v. Hill, 22 La. Ann. 469 (La. 1870)
Taliaferro
Wise v. Hill
Opinion of the Court
The defendant appeals from a judgment rendered against him on a promissory note, which expresses on its face that it was given for the hire of slaves. Obligations for the hire of slaves are illegal', and can not be enforced.
It is therefore ordered, adjudged and decreed that the judgment of the district court be annulled, avoided and reversed. It is further ordered that this suit be dismissed, at the cost of the plaintiff and appellee.
